About 70% of the earth’s surface is covered by salt water
oceans. This saline water comprises ~97.5% of the earth’s
total water. Only 2.5% of the earth’s total water is fresh
water, and most of this is currently ice.
It is no wonder therefore that the seas play a fundamental
part of life on earth.
